About the Center

Edward Hohfeld established the May Treat Morrison Chamber Music Center in 1955 to provide exquisite chamber music performances and educational opportunities to students and the community, and to introduce new generations to the traditions of classical chamber music and the dedicated musicians who perform it.

To attain these goals, the Morrison Chamber Music Center offers San Francisco and the regional community free chamber music performances of the highest quality by internationally recognized ensembles, and instructional programs in chamber music, encompassing lectures, master classes, artist residencies, mentoring and school outreach programs, promoting both public awareness and training to future generations of performers by master chamber music teachers and practitioners.

San Francisco State University

Housed at San Francisco State University, the Morrison Chamber Music Center presents both performance and instructional programs, reflecting Edward Hohfeld’s conviction that music must be taught not only by giving students opportunities to learn from the finest practitioners, but also by seeing live performances by the greatest master artists of the day.

Funding

The Morrison Chamber Music Center and its programs are supported by generous funding from the May Treat Morrison Charitable Trust, San Francisco State University and many private donors.
