Supported by the Morrison Endowment, the future of the Morrison Artists Series is unlimited. Because the series is endowed and not dependent on box-office revenue, it can afford to be daring and innovative in its programming, offering a wide variety of new, experimental, young, as well as established performers.
After 55 years and nearly 350 admission-free concerts attended by more than 100,000 people, the Morrison Artists Series is on the cutting edge of Bay Area music presenters. Each artistic director has reached out to new performers and composers, striving to defy traditional definitions of classical music, inspiring new audiences and ensuring that the series remains in the forefront of Bay Area musical life.
The Morrison Artists Series performance venue is the 700-seat McKenna Theatre in the Creative Arts Building at the SF State campus. Each concert is preceded by a public pre-concert lecture offering historical and aesthetic insights into the music being performed.
