The Alexander String Quartet

Known for its highest standard of performance and its dedication to teaching and in its interdisciplinary work, the Alexander String Quartet is recognized as SF State’s Quartet-in-Residence.

In a remarkable collaboration spearheaded by San Francisco Performances President Ruth Felt, the Alexander String Quartet's residency is so strikingly innovative that Chamber Music America cites it as a model to be emulated throughout the U.S. The residency, initiated in 1989, is supported by the San Francisco Unified School District and backed by the leadership and resources of SF State.

The Alexander String Quartet appears at least once a year on the Morrison Artists Series and once a year presents an Morrison Artists Series outreach concert off-campus at locations such as the University of California at Berkeley and California State University at Sacramento. In addition to its local activities, the quartet is known worldwide as one of today’s most distinguished chamber music ensemble.
