Classical Cornucopia: Performing Arts Calendar Full This Fall

SAN FRANCISCO EXAMINER -- San Francisco State University’s free series presents chamber-music stars such as the Juilliard String Quartet, American Brass Quintet and Trio con Brio Copenhagen. Supported by the May Treat Morrison Trust for the 57th year, the series opens at 3 p.m. Oct. 14 with the Jasper String Quartet. Concerts also feature SFSU resident Alexander String Quartet playing a diverse range of works by Ligeti, Ravel, Hindemith, Brahms, Takemitsu, Haydn, Carter, Schubert, Mozart, Cox, Beethoven, Martin and Norgard.

This series was created as part of the May Treat Morrison Chamber Music Center at SFSU.

The State Of The Arts - KDFC

The brand-new ensemble Trio Valtorna is made up of players who have a lot of history performing together. David Jolley plays the horn, with Ida Kavafian on violin, and Gilles Vonsattel at the piano. They're going to be presenting a free concert as part of the Morrison Artists Series at San Francisco State University this Sunday, with a pair of works by Brahms and John Harbison (the latter was written for David Jolley, who played it with Ida Kafavian back in the mid 1980s).
